Three things learned about Tottenham in clash v Southampton: This liability must be axed
COMMENT
Tottenham eased past Southampton with a 5-2 win in their Boxing Day clash as Harry Kane netted a second hat trick in as many matches.
The England striker, who came into the home game having scored three against Burnley last time out, was on hand to open the scoring after 22 minutes, heading home a header from just two yards out after Christian Eriksen’s perfectly placed deliver from a free kick.
The goal saw him break the 22-year-old record set by Alan Shearer for most Premier League goals in a calendar year, with the Newcastle United legend having scored 36 and Kane netting his 37th of 2017.
Spurs nearly handed the visitors a way back into the match after a defensive mix up between Hugo Lloris and Danny Rose, before Kane doubled both his and Spurs’ tally with a close range tap in five minutes before half time.
Just four minutes after the break Dele Alli drilled a precision shot past Fraser Forster, before setting up Heung-min Son to net a fourth moment later to add some real gloss to the performance of the Spurs squad.
However Kane stole the show, netting a cheeky chip over Fraser Forster for his hat trick, although the Saints made the most of some questionable defending to score two of their own before full time.
So what can fans take away from the clash at Wembley?
Here, Football Insider analyses three things learned in Tuesday’s match against their south coast opposition, including one liability who deserves the axe after being torn to shreds by the Saints.
