While the performance of the players was important to Spurs’ impressive victory, the way Pochettino set his side out was just as crucial.
It was a high energy performance which saw Tottenham press high, perhaps personified by the defensive work of Christian Eriksen throughout, while a well drilled defence stood mostly firm against a Southampton side which did demonstrate an attacking threat at times.
The front four were exceptional and the midfield were commanding in the centre of the park, and credit must fall at the manager’s feet for the way he set up his side.
