Dele Alli was one of many players who found themselves by Swansea’s resolute defence on Saturday, but he showed on Tuesday why he has established himself as a star for both club and country.

In a game lacking attacking quality, he was a bright spark, demonstrating his desire and drive to lead Spurs forward, despite the presence of target man Fernando Llorente.

It was his determination which saw him reach the ball ahead of the Barnsley defenders for his goal, and although not a shining performance from the team, he showed the grit and graft needed to grind out important results.
