Attacker simply not good enough: Three things we learned about Tottenham from win v Barnsley
Foyth a work in progress
One man who was handed his debut for the club against Barnsley was centre back Juan Foyth, following his summer transfer from Estudiantes.
The 19-year-old has had to be patient for his chance and, after appearances on the substitutes bench against Borussia Dortmund and Swansea, Pochettino finally named in in the starting XI.
However, do not expect him to be a regular feature in the side just yet.
The Argentinian, who was partnered alongside Jan Vertonghen in the heart of the defence, demonstrated his inexperience at times against Barnsley, and proved he is a work in progress for Spurs’ coaching staff.
It was an uncertain performance, as he allowed the Championship side a number of opportunities to create chances and threaten Michel Vorm in the Tottenham net.
Still, it is the start of a steep learning curve for the youngster, and there is no doubt Pochettino will be giving him further opportunities to prove himself down the line, whether in the cups or as a result of injury or suspension.
For now though, he will likely take his place back on the bench against West Ham on Saturday.
In other Tottenham news, this youngster has been named on the shortlist for the prestigious European Golden Boy award.
