Fans and pundits alike were left scratching their heads when the team sheets came out an hour before kick off.
“Harry Kane and Fernando Llorente?” they would have all been asking themselves.
That is the decision Pochettino made against Los Blancos, abandoning his usual tactic of a lone forward in favour of a partnership up front, in what was a huge gamble against a giant of the game.
Did the gamble pay off? In the first half, perhaps, but the second half made the Spanish striker look like a passenger.
He needs to work on his fitness if he is to be a regular in the side, but at least Pochettino has tried something new, which will leave the opposition second guessing themselves about their preparations in the future.
