Tottenham lacking key to success: Three things learned from win v West Ham

Spurs show mental weakness

There was no way that Tottenham should have let West Ham even have a sniff of securing a result after being 3-0 up, but that is exactly what they did.

Javier Hernandez’s close range finish shook the Spurs players and from then on it was all about the North London side holding on for the result.

Nerves from the away stand were reflected by a nervy performance on the pitch going into the final minutes of the second half, although West Ham never really troubled for a third goal.

Pochettino will be hoping to drill such mental weakness out of his side as soon as possible, as they look to compete on four fronts this season, with mental resilience a key to success.

They cannot afford to show any cracks in their armour to the likes of Real Madrid in the Champions League, while they will have to stand resolute against the big boys in the Premier League.
