Three worst Liverpool players in Manchester City stalemate

Football Insider takes a look at Liverpool’s three worst players in their 1-1 draw with Manchester City at the Etihad Stadium on Sunday.

Ragnar Klavan

He was lucky to not concede a penalty in the first half when he pulled down Sergio Aguero in the box – although the referee didn’t spot it so Klavan perhaps stopped City taking the lead. However, as the game went on it became more and more apparent that the Estonian international simply couldn’t cope with the pace of Man City’s attack. Eventually the equaliser came when the 31-year-old completely lost Aguero as the striker got around the back of him to prod the ball home past Simon Mignolet. Jurgen Klopp has to bring Dejan Lovren back into the side for their upcoming fixtures.

Philippe Coutinho

Despite strong attacking performances from the likes of Roberto Firmino and Georginio Wijnaldum, Coutinho was not involved at all against the Citizens. He showed his class on a few occasions when he played some clever passes to his teammates but he was largely ineffective when his side got forward and pressed the host’s backline. He constantly ran himself into trouble and didn’t do enough to keep City’s defence guessing as to what he was going to do next. A player of Coutinho’s calibre should be stepping up in the big games but on Sunday it wasn’t his day.

Adam Lallana

You can’t fluff a massive chance to give your side a win when you’re completely unmarked in the six-yard box – and that’s exactly what Lallana did on Sunday. The 28-year-old was found in acres of space by Roberto Firmino while the score was level and all he did was completely miss the ball when the goal was beckoning before him. Aside from that miss it was a very average outing from Lallana who was put to shame by some strong performances by other Liverpool players in the midfield. The Merseyside club’s challenge for Champions League qualification would look a lot sturdier if he made the most of that opportunity.
