Tielemans would be a ‘phwoar signing’ for Arsenal after journalist’s update – Campbell

Leicester City midfielder Youri Tielemans would be “a top signing” for Arsenal, according to Kevin Campbell.

The former Gunners and Everton striker, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, claimed a move for the 24-year-old would have to wait until the summer though.

Mikel Arteta and Edu are in the market for a centre-midfielder before Monday’s deadline having allowed Ainsley Maitland-Niles to leave on loan.

According to Football.London‘s Chris Wheatley (24 January), Tielemans is on the club’s list of midfield targets.

The Belgium international is attracting a lot of interest after entering the final 18 months of his contract at the King Power Stadium.

When asked for his thoughts on a potential move for Tielemans, Campbell told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs: “Phwoar, now that’d be a top signing.

“I like the player a lot.

“Many Arsenal fans would love to see him but that’s not the sort of signing that is going to get done in January. That is a summer job. Leicester won’t sell now.

“Tielemans is having a good think about his future at the moment because his contract is running down.

“Arsenal might be the perfect move for him. I think we can match his ambition and if it comes off, great.”

Tielemans has contributed six goals and three assists in 25 appearances across all competitions this season.

He scored the winning goal in last year’s FA Cup final.
