Tim Sherwood: Tottenham should sign this 16-goal forward
By Danny Wright
Tim Sherwood believes that Tottenham need to add strength in depth to their attacking force this summer.
To solve the problem, the former Spurs manager and midfielder thinks that that Mauricio Pochettino should look no further than Bournemouth for their solution, and try to sign their forward Josh King.
Spurs are largely hailed for their incredibly strong first-team options, but certainly fall short when back-ups are needed.
Vincent Janssen was used as Harry Kane’s foil last season, but when the England international striker was forced out of action through injury, the 2016 summer signing simply failed to provide the goods.
In order to combat that, Sherwood maintains that King, who scored 16 Premier League goals last term, would be the perfect solution.
“I think they need a centre-forward, but it is really important they get the right one,” said Sherwood, 48, to TalkSport.
“They can’t buy one who expects to be first choice because Harry will obviously be first choice. For me, it would be the one at Bournemouth. I think Josh King has got loads to offer.
“He runs in behind, he holds it up, he is strong, he is still developing and he would be a perfect player for the Tottenham squad. And he would get plenty of games – they are in the Champions League this year as well.”
However, Sherwood’s recommendation comes after the Sun reported that King is not eager on a move to North London if he was going to play in Kane’s shadow.
It is understood from that report that Everton are also keeping close tabs on the former Manchester United forward, as they brace themselves for the possibility of losing Romelu Lukaku.
Sherwood spent four years playing for Tottenham after he signing from Blackburn in 1999.
His first taste of management came at White Hart Lane, when he took the reins from Andre Vilas-Boas following his sacking in December 2013.
The former England international was sacked himself at the end of that season and went on to have a brief, unfortunate, spell with Aston Villa.
In other Tottenham news, the club have missed out on this £17.5million-rated enforcer.
