Timo Werner: ‘Tottenham exit update after Ange Postecoglou fury at Rangers’
Ange Postecoglou’s scathing criticism of Timo Werner is not expected to see the Tottenham attacker’s loan terminated, according to a report from Bild.
The German rejoined Spurs for a second loan spell from RB Leipzig in the summer transfer window, but has endured a tough time of things in North London.
That came to a head during the 1-1 draw with Rangers in the Europa League on Thursday (12 December) with Werner being substituted at half-time as his performance was slated by pundits.
Postecoglou was then highly-critical of the Germany international after the match with the Tottenham boss describing his showing at Ibrox as “unacceptable” [Sky Sports].
Some Spurs fans had speculated that could lead to Werner’s loan deal being cut short next month. But according to Bild he will not leave the club in January, and is expected to see out his loan with Postecoglou’s side, which is apparently not an issue.
However, any chance of the North Londoners activating the €12million (£9.9million) option to buy included in the loan deal come the summer is deemed unlikely.
Tottenham plan for Timo Werner arguably makes sense
Football Insider Opinion
Given they would be cancelling his loan in January rather than selling him Spurs would not receive any money from his departure and could leave them short on attacking options.
Considering some of the availability issues Tottenham have had in that area of the pitch this season it may not be the best time to sanction such an exit.
Despite that Werner’s performances for Postecoglou’s side so far this season have surely not been good enough to justify them spending money on him over other targets come the summer.

As a result it makes sense for them not to trigger his option to buy at the end of this season when there could be much more useful options to spend that money on.
Indeed, it will be interesting to see just how much Werner actually plays for Tottenham over the rest of the season in the wake of all this, when all their other attacking options are fit and available.
In other news, Spurs are working on a “big-money” deal for the January transfer window.
