Todd Boehly handed huge warning after Chelsea controversy – ‘we could embarrass you’

Chelsea chairman and co-owner Todd Boehly is already unpopular with the club’s fans but is at the heart of a new controversy at Stamford Bridge.

The Chelsea Supporters’ Trust has written to Premier League chief Richard Masters calling for an investigation into Vivid Seats – a company Boehly directs and is an investor in.

They have also submitted evidence to the government’s consultation on the resale of live event tickets – with seats for the final home match of this season against Liverpool selling for up to £20,000 on the platform.

Boehly’s links with Vivid Seats have been labelled a “breach of trust and a clear conflict of interest” by the Chelsea Supporters’ Trust.

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – insisted he expects the Premier League and Masters to intervene in due course.

Premier League to step in over Chelsea ticket touting, says Wyness

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness expects league chiefs to warn Boehly they could “embarrass” him if his association with Vivid continues.

The US billionaire has already caused a storm with Chelsea fans over his running of the club since taking over with Clearlake Capital in 2022.

Wyness insisted Boehly‘s involvement with ticket reselling is a “bad look” and suggested it is a violation of his “responsibility” as owner.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “I don’t think the Premier League can single out Todd Boehly and Vivid Seats.

“They’ll got to look at the touting of tickets overall and step in.

“But Vivid have been selling Chelsea tickets for up to £20,000, which is phenomenal.

“It’s such a bad look, and you would have thought that Boehly would have warned them against selling Chelsea tickets – at least.

“I know he’s not involved day-to-day, he’s just an investor – but it’s guilt by association.

“It gives him a problem with the Premier League which he doesn’t need. I’m surprised they haven’t intervened.

“Boehly has got a responsibility to set the tone on how things are done. If I was Richard Masters, I’d be having a quiet word behind the scenes.

“He can say: ‘Look, we are going to come in heavily. We could embarrass you, so try and sort it out.’”
