Scott Brown: A lot of people doubt this Celtic senior player
Celtic captain Scott Brown has praised the under-appreciated Craig Gordon for his performance in the goalless draw against Rangers at Parkhead on Saturday.
On a day when many of his team-mates didn’t perform, the 35-year-old earned his money with a series of fine saves in the second-half, including one miraculous effort from a point-blank Alfredo Morelos header.
The former Sunderland goalkeeper has had his critics among the Celtic support, something which Brown admits, but he was a key figure in ensuring that the Hoops didn’t lose to their bitter rivals.
“Craigy is fantastic. There are a lot of people who doubt him but it shows you what a class goalie he is yet again”, Brown said, as quoted by the Daily Record.
“He’s great with his feet and makes those great saves, that’s why we pay top dollar to have a top-quality keeper like that.”
Senior player Gordon and his team-mates have now kept four clean sheets in a row since the Bhoys’ unbeaten record came to a halt at 69 games in the 4-0 defeat to Hearts.
As for the game itself, it was old cliche ‘a game of two halves’ as the Hoops dominated the first-half, James Forrest being denied by a Wes Foderingham save and Scott Sinclair missing a sitter on the stroke of half-time.
The second-half belonged to Rangers, with Gordon making a fine save to deny an acrobatic James Tavernier effort and Morelos putting a free header wide of goal not long after being denied by the Gordon wonder save.
The Bhoys remain 11 points clear of their old rivals in the Scottish Premiership table following the result, and now head off to their winter break in Dubai
