Top flight side expecting Newcastle bid for 13-goal international hot shot – report

Turkish top flight side Besiktas are expecting Newcastle United to submit an official bid for star striker Cenk Tosun in the upcoming January transfer window, according to a report.

Turkish newspaper Milliyet claim on their website that Besiktas are yet to have had any official approach from the Magpies, while are also waiting on Premier League leaders Manchester City to submit their bid for the 26-year-old forward, who has been in impressive goal scoring form this season.

The 25-time-capped Turkey international has netted 13 goals in 22 appearances across all competitions, including four in six Champions League outings, and is said to have attracted the interest of Italian giants Juventus as well.

News that the Magpies are yet to make an official approach comes after a claim that Besiktas had slapped a £35million price tag on their striker’s head in order to ward off interest, with his contract set to end in the summer of 2019.

Football Insider verdict

There is no doubt that Newcastle are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements come January, and Tosun is a reported target that has been widely rumoured. However it appears less and less likely he will be signing for the Magpies as a lack of official bid, coupled with the quality of competition for his signing, casts doubts over the north east side’s ability to secure their targets. What they truly need is proven talent and while Tosun has done it for club and country, the Premier League is a different prospect, one which has chewed up and spat out even the hottest of talents prior to their arrival.
