Tosin Adarabioyo: ‘Huge’ offer submitted as Newcastle and Chelsea race hots up

Newcastle United believe they have made a compelling offer to Tosin Adarabioyo in their bid to beat Chelsea to his signature this summer, sources have told Football Insider

The Magpies are not looking to increase their contract offer to the 26-year-old after Chelsea have moved to hijack their deal for the Fulham defender ahead of his contract expiring at the end of June.

Newcastle have offered the English centre-back a “huge” wage increase and explained their plan to develop him into being a key part of Eddie Howe’s side.

Football Insider revealed last week St James’ Park chiefs held talks with Adarabioyo’s representatives in London before putting a triple-your-money contract offer on the table.

Chelsea’s bid to sign Adarabioyo has come as a blow, but the Tyneside club are still hopeful of securing an agreement to land him on a free next month.

Howe is prioritising the capture of proven top-flight defenders this summer as he looks to tighten up at the back next season.

Football Insider first revealed earlier this month Newcastle had registered an interest in signing Adarabioyo and Bournemouth’s Lloyd Kelly once both their contacts run out at the end of June.

Adarabioyo has commanded plenty of interest in recent months following his impressive performances since Fulham returned to the Premier League.

The Manchester-born defender has now made 132 appearances for the Cottagers after arriving from Manchester City back in 2020.

It was believed negotiations between the Magpies and Adarabioyo were at an advanced stage, but Chelsea’s interest has potentially thrown a spanner in the works.

The Blues can offer the centre-back European football next season after finishing in sixth place, while Newcastle missed out on qualifying for the Europa Conference League following Manchester United’s FA Cup victory.
