Toti Gomes and Marshall Munetsi react to Bellegarde announcement at Wolves

Toti Gomes and Marshall Munetsi came together on social media as Jean-Ricner Bellegarde was the subject of a new announcement at Wolves.

The latter has brought a breath of fresh air to Molineux Stadium since signing from Reims during the winter transfer window, scoring and assisting in seven appearances across all competitions.

Gomes, on the other hand, has grown into a leadership role under Vitor Pereira, creating a strong backline with Emmanuel Agbadou and Matt Doherty to drag Wolves away from the relegation zone.

Of course, Wolves’ most important star, Matheus Cunha, can largely be thanked for many of the club’s points this season, combining with Jorgen Strang Larsen to register 28 league goal contributions.

Jean-Ricner Bellegarde celebrates March award with Wolves teammates

With a 1-1 draw against David Moyes’ high-flying Everton side, and an all-important 2-1 win over Southampton, the international break might have come at the wrong time for Wolves.

Pereira’s team have moved nine points clear of the relegation zone with nine games to play, but with West Ham and Ipswich up next, they could have benefitted from the momentum.

However, with all three assists for the goals his team scored this month, the club’s official Instagram wrote: “Bellegarde has been nominated for Premier League Player of the Month for March! Head to our story to vote for JRB.”

The creative midfielder was supported by his teammates, with Gomes and Munetsi joined by Rodrigo Gomes and Yerson Mosquera in liking the post.

Vitor Pereira must be backed by Wolves hierarchy in summer transfer window

Football Insider verdict

With Carlos Forbs and Strand Larsen set to return to their parent clubs at the end of the season, Pereira could be without a decent attacker, especially if Nottingham Forest are to secure Cunha’s signature.

Take away the Brazilian and his striker partner, the next highest goalscorer for Wolves in the Premier League is Joao Gomes with three, joined by full-back Rayan Ait-Nouri.

Wolves’ attack has mainly relied on two players this season.

While Agbadou, Munetsi and Nasser Djiga were all added to the squad during the winter transfer window, and a hefty amount of money was spent on the trio, the owners may have to dig even deeper in the summer.

If the West Midlands club are to avoid relegation next season, it will take more than just a change of manager to change the team’s fortunes, having parted ways with Gary O’Neil in December.

Bellegarde is certainly a player who can have a bigger influence going forward, proven by his stellar performances during March, but it will take more than just one player to keep the ship afloat.
