Tottenham academy product on verge of call-up – report
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham midfielder Harry Winks is still on the radar for a senior England call-up, according to a report.
The Evening Standard claim that Gareth Southgate has been very impressed with the 21-year-olds performances for Spurs this season, despite his omission from his squad for upcoming matches against Germany and Lithuania.
The Spurs academy product was included in England’s Under-21s side during the international break, but it may not be long before he gets a senior promotion.
Winks is enjoying a breakthrough season at White Hart Lane and has become the latest academy player to force his way into the firs-team.
The central midfielder has already made 32 appearances this season across all competitions and is a trusted member of Mauricio Pochettino’s squad.
He is now competing for a starting role in Spurs’ side and faces tough competition from team-mates Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama.
However, he has managed to become a popular figure with supporters and showcased his intelligence in possession.
Winks will now have the opportunity to impress with the national side’s Under-21 against Germany and Denmark respectively.
He will hope to follow in the footsteps of Spurs ace Harry Kane, who has gone on to become a crucial player for both club and country.
