Tottenham and Newcastle United named as potential destinations for Nathan Ake after source’s reveal – pundit

Alan Hutton has named Tottenham and Newcastle United as potential destinations for Nathan Ake if he leaves Man City this summer.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Premier League defender “cannot see” Ake, 27, at another top-four club.

On Monday (5 July), this site revealed that Man City have told the left-footed defender that he is free to leave the club this summer.

The Netherlands international has three years left on his contract at the Etihad.

Ake joined Pep Guardiola’s side in 2020 from Bournemouth.

When asked what clubs could be interested in the centre-back, Hutton told Football Insider: “He’s obviously looking as high as possible, but realistically I can’t see it being a top four team.

But then you look at the likes of Tottenham, they’re looking for defensive reinforcements – could he fit in there? Yes, of course he could. Newcastle are looking for reinforcements could he fit in there? Yes, he could.

I mean there’s a lot of teams out there that he would fit into. Of course you want to be playing at the highest level possible and I think he will but it’s purely down to game time.

You don’t want to be in a relegation battle and you don’t want to be stuck on the bench somewhere so it’s a big decision for him.”

Man City

Ake made 27 appearances for Man City across all competitions last season.

He scored three goals.
