Tottenham are ‘backing Thomas Frank’ after deal ‘confirmed’

Conor Gallagher joining Tottenham is a show of support from the club towards manager Thomas Frank.

That is according to ex-Everton, Aston Villa, and Aberdeen chief executive Keith Wyness, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, who is backing Gallagher to be a smart signing under Frank.

Frank is facing pressure at Spurs amid the club’s inconsistent form this season which sees them in the bottom half of the Premier League table.

Spurs were expected to be active in the January transfer window, and Gallagher is set to become their first major new addition.

‘Confirmed’ transfer news at Tottenham

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – has compared Spurs and West Ham‘s recruitment ahead of their Premier League clash.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast, Wyness is tipping Spurs to beat the Hammers amid the first sign of backing for Frank in the transfer market.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “It was confirmed that Gallagher is going to come to Spurs. And that’s exactly what I mean about the Tottenham hierarchy backing Thomas Frank.

“So Gallagher is a hard-working player. He did well at Atletico Madrid, he was well-liked, but certainly did really well at Palace. And I think he will fit Thomas Frank very well. He’s a hard-working player, which is probably the best I can say about him.

“But I think at £40 million, that’s a big sign of backing for Thomas Frank. If there’s a couple of more and I do expect another couple for Spurs, that’s going to be a big sign for him. I think having him come in to freshen up the squad as well against West Ham will give Spurs that bit of an edge.

“And so I expect to see Spurs to win that game, but it’s a tricky one. But certainly freshening up Spurs is going to be important and we’re seeing those signs. Whereas the freshening up in West Ham seems more desperation rather than actually strategic freshening up in my point of view.”

Tottenham star set for lengthy spell out

The signing of Gallagher could be even more crucial as Frank has been dealt a major injury blow in midfield.

Rodrigo Bentancur could miss up to 18 games for Spurs following a hamstring tear picked up in defeat at Bournemouth.

The 28-year-old has made 20 Premier League appearances this season, with Archie Gray the beneficiary of his absence in the FA Cup defeat to Aston Villa.
