Tottenham are ‘winning’ race for Antoine Semenyo, this is when they’ll sign him

Tottenham have been tipped to beat their Premier League rivals to the signing of Bournemouth star Antoine Semenyo.

Semenyo signed a brand-new five-year deal at the Vitality Stadium over the summer, quelling talk of a move away.

The Ghanaian international has six Premier League goals already this season, and has also picked up three assists in the top-flight.

In the last few days though, it has been revealed that Semenyo has a £65million release clause in his contract, sparking rumours of a Bournemouth exit.

Tottenham will push for Antoine Semenyo in January

Everton’s former chief Keith Wyness – who served as CEO at Goodison Park between 2004 and 2009 and now runs a football consultancy advising elite clubs – believes that Tottenham are leading the likes of Liverpool in the race for Semenyo.

Speaking on the new edition of Football Insider’s Inside Track podcast, Wyness insisted that the 25-year-old would be a marquee signing for Spurs.

Semenyo’s release clause reportedly has to be activated in the first two weeks of the January.

Wyness added that he is certain the winger will move when the window reopens, with Tottenham being the favourites to land him.

He told Football Insider‘s Inside Track podcast: “Well, I’ve been saying all along that he will go to Spurs, and I still believe he could be a marquee signing for Spurs. They’re going to be trying very hard to get him.

“Certainly, this £65m clause is big. It’s got to be exercised in the first two weeks of January is what we’ve been told, to give Bournemouth some time to try and fill the gap. I think he’ll move, certainly, in January. There will be a race for him as well, because he is on the fire at the moment.

“People have been talking about him as the replacement for Salah at Liverpool, but I still believe that Spurs would be the frontrunners. I think there will be a lot of interest and at the moment we’re going to see how December shapes up, but I’ve got this hunch about Spurs for some reason.”

Ivan Toney makes Tottenham transfer decision

Meanwhile, Ivan Toney is “more than likely” to stay at Al-Ahli despite intense interest from Tottenham.

It is widely believed that Spurs are looking for a new striker in January, following their inconsistent form in front of goal.

However, sources told Football Insider that Toney’s wages would prove to be a stumbling block for Tottenham in their quest to secure his signature.
