Tottenham backed to agree James Ward-Prowse deal after source’s reveal – expert
Alan Hutton has claimed James Ward-Prowse would be a good addition to Tottenham.
But, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs defender insisted Ward-Prowse’s arrival could depend on Antonio Conte’s future.
Yesterday (6 March), sources told this site that the Lilywhites are monitoring the 28-year-old’s situation ahead of the summer.
Southampton could find it difficult to keep hold of the midfielder if they are relegated to the Championship this season.
The Saints are currently 19th in the Premier League table but joint on points with bottom-placed Bournemouth with 13 games left of the season.
The England international has played every minute in the English top flight this season and has scored six goals and provided two assists in those outings.
When asked if Ward-Prowseis the kind of attack-minded midfielder Tottenham are looking for, Hutton told Football Insider: “I think his numbers show that.
“Not obviously just from dead ball situations but he has got that eye for a pass, he has played a lot of games for Southampton in the Premier League and has a lot of experience.
“Where doe he fit in to that midfield if Antonio Conte stays? We know how he likes to play with two strong, combative midfielders. Is he going to play week in week out? That is what he would have to look at moving forward.

“But I definitely think he gives them something different. He is at a good age as well so I think it would be a good signing.
“But it all depends on the manager and whether he stays or not.“
