Tottenham backed to beat Man City to Josko Gvardiol signing after journalist’s update – pundit
Frank McAvennie has backed Tottenham to beat Man City to the signing of Josko Gvardiol.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Gvardiol will only move to City if he can be guaranteed a place in the starting lineup.
According to journalist Alfredo Pedalled (14 December), the Sky Blues are lining up a club-record £110million bid for the 20-year-old.
Premier League rivals Chelsea had an £80million bid rejected in the summer and Tottenham and Man United are also believed to be interested in the centre-back.
But Pep Guardiola’s side are said to be attempting to blow all other clubs out of the water with a huge bid being prepared for the World Cup star.
But McAvennie suggested Gvardiol is more likely to choose a move to Antonio Conte’s side.
“I can tell you right now that is what Tottenham need,” he told Football Insider.
“They should spend that money on a centre-half. I think they have been lacking in those positions.
“I do not know if I would want to go to Man City. He will be in and out.

“They have got some good players at City and there are already three or four top players fighting for two positions there. Why would another want to go into the mix?
“If he thinks he can go there and nail down a place then fair enough. But I would want to leave after a year if I could not get a place.“
