Tottenham backed to seal Jordan Pickford deal this month after ‘big’ boardroom update – pundit

Tottenham could exploit Everton’s poor league position to sign Jordan Pickford this month.

That’s according to former Hibernian striker Tam McManus, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ goalkeeping situation.

Hugo Lloris, 36, failed to hold on to a tame long-range Douglas Luiz effort in the buildup to Aston Villa’s first goal against Tottenham on Sunday (1 January).

As per Opta, the Spurs stopper how now made three errors leading to goals this season.

Meanwhile, the Daily Mail reported on 27 December there is a boardroom delay on a new deal for Pickford, who is out of contract in 18 months.

With Everton languishing in the relegation zone, McManus is backing Tottenham to exploit the situation and sign Pickford.

“I’ve not been convinced by Lloris for a long time now, it seems like for a few years he has been making these mistakes,” McManus told Football Insider‘s Ben Wild.

“He’s had a few this season already and I think it is time for Tottenham to look for a replacement. I look at Jordan Pickford at Everton.

“They are doing so badly, he is their best player. He should be playing for a far better side and with everything going on with his contract, I wonder if he wants out in January.

“That’s a big thing for me, if the club won’t put the effort in then why should he?

“If an offer from Tottenham comes in now, I think Pickford would jump at it. Everton are only going in one direction and I think there will be a few players desperate to leave.”

Everton

Pickford has started all but one of Everton’s Premier League games this season.

He has kept three clean sheets in the competition.
