‘Tottenham board make Thomas Frank sack decision’ after ‘serious’ development

Tottenham are keen to stick by Thomas Frank despite increasing pressure on his position as manager following a string of difficult results.

That is according to former Tottenham and Man United chief scout Mick Brown, who remains very well-connected within the game, as he exclusively told Football Insider that the new-look board plan to show support in the manager despite some unrest.

This comes after Football Insider revealed on on 13 November that Frank has the backing of the Tottenham board despite some early questions about his position.

Frank’s side lost 2-1 to Fulham last time out, meaning they have now won just one of their last seven games in all competitions, with their home record a particular concern.

Tottenham fans have called for Frank to be sacked as a result of that run, alongside a number of underwhelming performances, but those calls could fall on deaf ears.

Tottenham make Thomas Frank sack decision

Brown told Football Insider earlier this month that Tottenham fans have turned on Frank, in what is seen as a bad sign for his future at the club.

However, the former scout who has a wealth of experience working alongside elite-level managers including Sir Alex Ferguson for over a decade at Man United, insisted that the Spurs board currently have no plans to part ways with Frank.

It was another extremely poor result for Tottenham,” he told Football Insider.

“That’s no disrespect for Fulham, because they went and did their jobs and were very impressive, but it felt like typical Tottenham, which is a shame.

“In years gone by, when the fans turned against the board, the manager would be the one who gets the blame and ultimately loses his job.

“There have been a few changes there now, and the new board will want to show their support for the manager and show some stability from the top.

“The supporters aren’t happy because the results aren’t going to plan on the pitch.

“They put the pressure on, they demand a certain type of playing time and result and neither of those are in place at the moment, that’s a problem.

“But as far as the club are concerned, I don’t think they’re planning to sack him and they’re hopeful he’ll be able to turn things around quickly.”

Frank wants to be backed by Tottenham in January

Brown told Football Insider that Frank is eyeing an overhaul of his Tottenham squad, with major changes part of his plans to reverse their recent fortunes.

However, there are doubts about whether Tottenham will be prepared to give him the backing he desires when the January transfer window opens.

While the club remains in a strong financial position, the extend of their willingness to spend has been questioned following a frustrating summer window.

Football Insider revealed on 25 November that Tottenham want to sign a striker and a winger in January as priority positions to strengthen Frank’s starting XI.

The boss is set to push for further improvements to mould the squad to suit his style, but despite the board’s backing off the pitch, their spending may be limited.
