Tottenham boss Antonio Conte has ‘rotten taste in his mouth’ as talks collapse – pundit

Frank McAvennie has claimed Antonio Conte has “a rotten taste in his mouth” at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former West Ham striker said Conte has not been given what he was promised by Daniel Levy when he took the job.

According to the Daily Mail (20 December), Spurs’ attempts to tie down the 53-year-old are set to fail despite offering a £1million-a-year pay rise.

Tottenham bosses were hopeful of agreeing a new deal before the Premier League restart on Boxing Day but the Italian has made it clear that he is in no hurry to sign a new deal.

Levy is believed to be comfortable with the situation despite Conte having just over six months left on his current deal.

But McAvennie suggested there could be problems between the pair.

I do not know what the situation with Conte and Daniel Levy is,” he told Football Insider.

There was a lot of conflict at the beginning. Did Conte get the players that he was wanting? I do not think so. I do not think he has been given what he was promised.

He has been given more than what most managers but I do not think he has been given what he was promised.

Managers like that do not hang about. He is going to have a rotten taste in his mouth.

He is not going to be short of a job but I do not know how many people Tottenham can go through to find that winning formula.
