Kieran Maguire slams Levy ‘communication’ after ‘annoyed’ star fumes at Tottenham transfer

Kieran Trippier has revealed he was “annoyed” at the manner of his Tottenham exit in 2019 – and that “doesn’t reflect well” on Daniel Levy.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the Newcastle United star’s recent swipe at his former boss.

Trippier, 31, left Spurs in 20119 to join Atletico Madrid, where he won La Liga before signing for the Magpies in a £12million deal earlier this month.

The right-back told The Athletic on Thursday (27 January) that he was “annoyed” that Levy “offered him to other clubs” months before his exit.

Maguire claimed that Levy’s apparently clinical approach to player trading is indicative of a “not particularly good management style”.

“Kieran Trippier is held in high regard in the football industry,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“He is an England international. To be treated like a commodity and to be made aware of that by your employer isn’t enjoyable.

“I always take the view that communication is a great way of A) preventing problems and B) resolving problems.

“If Levy had been doing this with no communication, I don’t think it reflects well and it’s not a particularly good management style.”

Trippier scored twice and supplied 24 assists in 114 appearances for Spurs between 2015 and 2019.

He has turned out three times for his new club in the north east, who are 18th and in a relegation scrap in the Premier League.
