Tottenham cited as Man United takeover plan revealed – Kieran Maguire
Man United have ‘fallen behind’ Man City and Liverpool in terms of stadium quality because of the Glazers.
That is the view of finance expert Kieran Maguire, who spoke exclusively to Football Insider about the need for renovations at Old Trafford under new ownership.
The Red Devils are still in the process of a takeover, with the Glazers yet to make a final decision on whether to accept the bid of Sheikh Jassim or Sir Jim Ratcliffe.
But regardless of which takeover bid ends up winning the race, a top priority for a new ownership group will be investing in the stadium and club infrastructure.
As per the Daily Mail, Man United were presented with a number of stadium plans in January which included an option of demolishing the current ground and constructing a new venue nearby.
Maguire explained that the Glazers have neglected investment into Old Trafford as they were waiting on grants from Project Big Picture and the Super League to fund any projects.
“For people wanting to attend Manchester United on a match-day basis from the corporate sector, a revamped Old Trafford would be a step forward,” Maguire told Football Insider’s Sean fisher.
“I would certainly expect to see significantly more hospitality boxes in an expanded stadium and also Manchester United need to bring the stadium into the 21st century.
“They’ve fallen behind not just Manchester City, but also many of the clubs in London and also arguably Liverpool.
“It comes down to the Glazers’ failure to invest because they looked for both Project Big Picture and the Super League to provide a series of grants to fund capital expenditure.

“So regardless of who the owner is, a new or revamped Old Trafford would be a positive.
“Now, whether that’s going to be an expansion of what we have already or a complete knockdown and rebuild as we’ve seen at Spurs, waits to be seen.“
