Tottenham could face last-minute twist in bid to sign Yves Bissouma after Sky update – pundit

Alan Hutton has suggested Tottenham could face late competition to sign Yves Bissouma from Brighton after reportedly agreeing transfer terms.

The former Spurs defender, speaking exclusively to Football Insider, insisted other teams would be interested in striking a deal for the 25-year-old as news of the Lilywhites’ pursuit becomes public.

Sky Sports (14 June) claim Bissouma is set to undergo a medical with Tottenham on Thursday after Spurs agreed a £25million fee with Brighton.

As revealed by Football Insider in April, Aston Villa registered their interest in signing the Seagulls midfielder.

Hutton suggested a rival suitor could launch a last-minute raid to hijack Spurs’ deal.

Asked if he thought other teams would be interested at £25million, Hutton told Football Insider’s Russell Edge: “You would think there would be.

“Obviously, it’s still out there at this moment in time, people could still, obviously, get involved.

“We’re at that stage where he’s into the last year of his contract. He’s not going to sign a new deal. They have to take what they can at this moment in time.

“The player, he’s young, he can stay for one more year and walk away for nothing. They don’t want that. Brighton are a club that need that money coming in.

“They’ve obviously found a gem there and will want to cash in on him before it runs out. Yes, it is low. Only one year left so I do understand but I’m pretty sure there will be other teams monitoring the situation as well.”

Bissouma is heading into the final 12 months of his contract at Brighton.

He has 112 Premier League appearances under his belt to date.
