Kieran Maguire: Tottenham could secure ‘lucrative’ new contract as ‘real buzz’ generated

The Tottenham Hotspur stadium would be the ideal destination to host a London NFL franchise.

So says finance guru Kieran Maguire, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about Spurs’ hopes of securing a “lucrative” contract with the NFL.

The Dail Mail reported last Saturday (12 February) that Tottenham are marketing themselves as the ‘Home of the NFL in Europe’.

Spurs already host two American football games per season as part of £40million-a-year contract.

Maguire told this site on Thursday (17 February) that Spurs would struggle to finance the creation of a club-branded NFL team.

But the spreadsheet expert believes that a London NFL franchise could pay Tottenham to use their stadium as a base.

“The NFL’s approach is to follow the money,” he told Football Insider‘s Adam Williams.

“I think the NFL want to use other sectors to get an excitement about their sport.

“That is why having multiple matches in multiple cities is appealing to them.

There’s no reason why they couldn’t host a London NFL team. Tottenham are generating a real buzz with the stadium.

“If the NFL see a lucrative destination, they’ll have absolutely no qualms about representing themselves overseas.

“It’s not dissimilar to the 39th game idea we have seen in the Premier League.

Spurs have £703m worth of debt from the construction of their 63,000-seater stadium.

Antonio Conte’s side are currently 8th in the league table ahead of their trip to Man City today (19 February).
