Tottenham may be set to miss out on the signature of highly-rated defender Issa Diop this summer, according to a report.
The Mirror claim that Premier League rivals Chelsea are closing in on a deal worth £15million for Diop, as Antonio Conte eyes defensive reinforcements in the upcoming transfer window.
However, with negotiations reportedly firmly underway at Stamford Bridge, Tottenham may be forced to turn their attention to other targets.
The towering centre-back has been a mainstay in the defence at the Ligue 1 outfit this season, making 24 appearances in all competitions.
He has scored two goals and supplied two assists, whilst contributing to a defence that has kept seven clean sheets with him in the side.
Tottenham manager Mauricio Pochettino is weighing up a potential move for a central defender this summer, with insufficient cover for first team duo Jan Vertonghen and Toby Alderweireld.
Football Insider verdict
Diop has been tipped as a star France international for the future, and Tottenham need to act fast if they are to avoid him slipping deeper into the clutches of their Premier League rivals. The youngster must still prove that he has what it takes to perform at the top level for an elite club, with Toulouse currently battling in mid-table in Ligue 1, but his endless potential makes him worth a punt for Tottenham. The scouts will have been compiling favourable reports on the defender over the season, and Pochettino should be confident that he can provide the sufficient cover to his first-team stars.
