Tottenham, Everton and Newcastle well placed to land cash bonanza – finance expert
Newcastle and Tottenham headline the five Premier League clubs chosen to host games at UEFA Euro 2028 – and the extra revenue could be bigger than first expected.
That is according to football finance expert Dr Dan Plumley who exclusively told Football Insider what difference hosting games at the tournament could make.
England reached the final of UEFA Euro 2024, losing to Spain, whilst the Three Lions also reached the final of Euro 2020 which was hosted at Wembley Stadium.
Euro 2028 will be hosted by the United Kingdom and the Republic of Ireland, after Germany held the previous edition.

Premier League clubs won’t ‘make a lot of money’ from Euro 2028
Newcastle, Aston Villa, Everton, Man City and Spurs are the Premier League clubs whose stadiums will be used to host Euro 2028 matches.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, Plumley says that clubs may have to be creative to make the most financially out of the tournament.
“So they don’t make a lot of money. UEFA in a European championship will take the majority of the ticket money,” Plumley said.
“It’s their tournament, and these clubs are obviously hosting on UEFA’s behalf. It’s more about the wider picture here and how you can leverage that and how that potentially benefits the club.
“And if you look at Newcastle as an example, there are others in there where we will see something similar. Newcastle have built a kind of purpose-built fan park next door that they own a proportion of and can generate from.
“If you start to look at the fan parks and things like that and how you can attach them to the club while you’re looking at selling club merchandise, for international and travelling fans.
“That’s how you can get some leverage from the club side, to provide a financial boost. You’re not going to get the bulk of the ticket sales.
“You know, that’s with UEFA, so there is a financial benefit, but it’s not as big as perhaps people may think.
“It’s more about that wider exposure and, obviously, eyes on screen as well all the way around Europe and all the way around the world. And the prestige factor of being able to host an event like that.
“So a lot of the financial boost is secondary, and a lot of it is also wrapped up in the intangible benefits of hosting.”

Newcastle delay stadium plans to host Euro 2028 games
Newcastle have future stadium plans, but St James’ Park has still been selected to host matches, whilst Everton were backed to host Euro 2028 games at their new Hill Dickinson Stadium, which only opened earlier this year.
Man United‘s historic Old Trafford home has not been selected, with the more modern Etihad Stadium chosen over the 115-year sporting venue.
Wembley Stadium will host the final for the second time, in what could be a major boost to the London economy.
