Tottenham ramp up pursuit of Championship teenager, Everton also in the race – report

By Danny Wright

Tottenham have ramped up their pursuit of Bolton goalkeeper Jake Turner, according to a report.

The Sun claims that Spurs have deployed scouts to keep tabs on the 18-year-old during his last two performances in the reserves squad, but have since found out that Manchester United are also eyeing up the teenager.

It is understood that United’s interest has seen Tottenham try to put themselves in pole position to snap up the shot-stopper while Everton are also said to be in the race for his signature.

Championship teenager Turner has two caps for the England Under-18 side and although he is yet to earn his senior debut for Bolton, he has been involved in first-team affairs on a number of occasions having been named on the bench for most of last season.

It remains to be seen whether Turner is still seen as Phil Parkinson’s second choice goalkeeper for the new campaign as the Trotters begin life back in the second-tier against Leeds on Sunday.

Turner has only recently signed his first professional deal at the Macron Stadium, but it is now understood that Bolton will look to sell him to the highest bidder.

Football Insider Verdict

Tottenham need to kick on and make their first summer signing, but it will be quite underwhelming to the fans if they’re snapping up a development squad goalkeeper. Turner looks like he may have some real ability to be a top-flight shot-stopper in the future, but right now Spurs need to be focussing their efforts elsewhere. Most Premier League sides rely on using two goalkeepers and one of their Under-23 squad members for their third choice. However it seems like Mauricio Pochettino is determined to bring in someone else to provide competition to Hugo Lloris and Michel Vorm. That isn’t really necessary and instead Pochettino should be looking to replace the likes of Vincent Janssen and Moussa Sissoko.

In other Tottenham news, Bayern Munich are plotting a massive bid for this key Spurs first-team player – but it isn’t Dele Alli.
