Tottenham expected 4-2-3-1 v Liverpool: 27-year-old omitted
By Dominic Toner
Tottenham are set to name an unchanged starting line-up for their game against Liverpool, meaning that Moussa Sissoko’s omission is set to continue.
The 27-year-old completed a dramatic £30million move to White Hart Lane in the summer on deadline-day, but has been unable to force his way into Mauricio Pochettino’s best XI.
The France international has not started a league game since December and has fallen down the pecking order of wingers, with appearances off the bench his only chance to impress.
Spurs travel to Anfield for a crucial Premier League match at the weekend and will close the gap to table toppers Chelsea to just six points with a win.
The north London club will still be without senior defender Jan Vertonghen as he recovers, while Danny Rose is reportedly set to miss the rest of February after a knee injury.
Spurs are expected to continue with Hugo Lloris in goal and he has been a major factor behind the club holding the best defensive record in the league, with just 16 goals conceded in 24 matches.
Pochettino has resorted back to a four-man defence since the injury to Rose and has ditched the wing-back system.
Ben Davies is set to continue at left-back in place of Rose, while Eric Dier partners Toby Alderweireld at centre-back, and ever-present Walker plays on the right hand side of the defence.
Spurs’ solid midfield pairing Mousa Dembele and Victor Wanyama are likely to continue in the centre and will be hoping to nullify the Liverpool attack.
Meanwhile, Heung-Min Son and Christian Eriksen are expected to start in the wide positions for the north London club at the expense of Sissoko.
The 27-year-old will hope to make an impact off the bench in the crunch fixture as some fans he is currently fighting for his future.
England pair Dele Alli and Harry Kane are set to continue in the side and give Spurs a strong attacking outlet.
