Tottenham expected to reject chance to re-sign Gareth Bale after journalist’s update – pundit
Tottenham manager Antonio Conte would turn down the chance to sign Gareth Bale on a short-term deal this summer.
That is the view of former White Harte Lane number one Paul Robinson, speaking exclusively to Football Insider about the possibility of the 32-year-old returning for a third stint at Spurs.
Bale‘s contract with Real Madrid expires this summer.
According to the Standard‘s Dan Kilpatrick (29 March), the winger could sign a short-term deal with a new club if Wales qualify for the World Cup.
The Wales international scored twice last Thursday to put his country to within touching distance of Qatar.
When asked if Bale would be a welcome addition back at Spurs, Robinson told Football Insider‘s Dylan Childs:
“That ship has sailed for me, especially if he is talking about a short-term deal. It didn’t work out last time.
“He does superbly well when he plays for Wales and he puts the myth to bed that you have to play regular football to perform at the top level. He has still got it and I still think he has a lot to offer.

“If he does want to carry on playing and play in a World Cup he need to give a longer-term commitment to a club. It cannot just be a short-term deal to keep fit and training until the World Cup.
“Conte is looking to the future. He wants to build a team that can be successful for years to come. Bale doesn’t fit into that for me. There is no longevity there.”
In other news, a pundit has claimed Antonio Conte has ‘made up his mind’ on Tottenham 24-year-old after source’s reveal.
