Tottenham expert backs Clement Lenglet after universal social media verdict

Clement Lenglet is now a genuine contender to start every game for Tottenham after impressing against Fulham (3 September).

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Lenglet was handed his first start as a Spurs player in Saturday’s 2-1 win over Fulham.

The defender had only made one previous appearance for the club, coming off the bench against Southampton on the opening day of the season (6 August).

Wenham was delighted by what he saw from the Barcelona loanee.

“Lenglet slotted in there like he had always been at the club,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“It was his full Tottenham debut and he looked calm and collected bringing it out from the back.

“He looks genuine option for us this season. Conte now knows he has another player he can rely on in the same way he can with Ben Davies.

“We are very well-stocked in that left centre-back role. I think Lenglet has done his chances of starting more regularly no harm at all.

“I was impressed, as was a large section of the fan base on social media, a positive development.”

Lenglet started alongside Eric Dier and Cristian Romero as Spurs failed to keep a clean sheet.

Tottenham are next in action against Marseille on Wednesday (7 September) as they return to Champions League action.
