Tottenham expert can’t believe ‘bizarre’ thing he’s just heard from fans
Tottenham fans should be glad they have avoided any of the “big boys” in the Champions League Group Stage draw.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Tottenham will face Marseille, Sporting Lisbon and Frankfurt in the group stage.
Wenham has heard some fans complaining about not drawing a so-called “bigger” club, something he can’t understand.
“I’m pleased with the group. I have seen a few people who seem to be disappointed that we didn’t get any of the so-called big boys in the group,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It’s a bit of a bizarre take. I know what they mean but for me, you can play those later on in the competition.
“It is a very busy period at the start of the competition, the games are going to come thick and fast so for Tottenham’s own progression in the tournament and our ability to play high-intensity games twice a week, it is a good draw.
“I’m really pleased with it and I do put us as strong favourites to qualify from the group. I think Marseille will be a tricky game, it’s the hardest pot four game you could have got.
“A side full of ex-Arsenal and West Ham players, Alexis Sanchez is there now as well. That will be a real atmospheric game because of all of those ex-Arsenal players.

“That’s our first game as well so if we can win that then it will set us up to do well.
“I’m actually flying out for the Sporting game which I am really excited about, another winnable tie. All of the games are winnable so I’m looking forward to it.”
