Tottenham expert can’t believe what he’s just heard from Arsenal fans

Arsenal have fallen even further behind Tottenham this summer despite the singings of Gabriel Jesus and Oleksandr Zinchenko.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Arsenal announced the signing of Zinchenko, 25, from Man City on Friday (22 July).

He follows Gabriel Jesus, 25, through the door who will be looking to replace the attacking threat of the recently-departed Alexandre Lacazette.

However, Wenham is yet to be convinced that Arsenal will challenge for a top-four spot next season.

“Is he Prem proven? Yes. Can he play multiple positions? Yes. He has also worked with Jesus and Arteta before,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“On paper, it is a good signing for Arsenal, he can cover multiple positions. But I have heard Arsenal fans saying that they are very confident about challenging for the top four.

“Well, they finished below Tottenham last year. We have added six signings, five of which will challenge for starting positions.

“I don’t see that they have made up the gap. They have signed the backup striker from the team with no striker.

“Zinchenko is a squad player at City. I don’t think they have done enough. This summer, Bellerin, Maitland-Niles, Pablo Mari and Reiss Nelson have all returned.

“They cannot shift players. They have a similar problem to us.”

Arsenal blew the chance to secure a Champions League spot last season after losing two of their final three Premier League games.

The Gunners being their 2022-23 campaign against Crystal Palace on 5 August.
