Tottenham expert defends Mauricio Pochettino as Chelsea footage emerges
Mauricio Pochettino’s Chelsea comments have been “taken out of context”.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, former Tottenham and Aston Villa right-back Alan Hutton defended Pochettino’s comments about the Blues.
Speaking to club media (4 July), the new Stamford Bridge boss described the club as “the greatest team in England” in the last 15 years.
The comments caused fury among Tottenham fans who couldn’t believe their former boss would make such a bold claim.
Pochettino was in charge of Spurs for five years and guided them to the Champions League final before being sacked five months later.
Hutton suggested Pochettino wasn’t trying to talk down his former club.
“I think if you look at the bigger picture Chelsea have won a lot of trophies,” he told Football Insider.
“You look at the era of [Dider] Drogba, [John] Terry, [Frank] Lampard, Joe Cole, all of these guys. They were superstars and they won trophies. So I think it has maybe been taken out of context a little bit.
“I think he is talking about how they have got a big history, have been one of the best, they are expected to be up there challenging.

“What do you expect him to say? He is the manager of Chelsea, do you expect him to day they are rubbish.
“He is basically saying there is a big history of winning trophies and he needs to continue that legacy.“
