Tottenham expert dismisses ‘lucky’ claims after ‘incredible’ Sky reveal

The number of own goals Tottenham are benefiting from is not a cause for concern.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham benefitted from their tenth own goal of the season when Kurt Zouma put through his own net on Sunday (20 March).

As per Sky Sports, this makes ‘own goals’ Spurs’ third-highest scorer in all competitions this season.

Wenham insists this is not down to luck, rather it’s a testament to Spurs’ attacking quality.

“It is quite an incredible stat but honestly, I don’t care,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“For me, it actually shows we are getting the ball in the right area all of the time.

“If the defender isn’t going to get there then Kane or Son probably will and that’s the key thing.

“Quality deliveries from Kane and Son are clearly causing problems for these defenders.

“Look at the own goals Zouma and Maguire scored for us. They were forced into that by the quality of the ball.

“It’s not lucky like some people say, it’s actually a testament to our attacking ability.”

Zouma’s own goal on Sunday was the first in a 3-1 win for Tottenham with Heung-Min Son netting a brace.

Spurs are next in action against Newcastle United after the international break on 3 April.
