Tottenham expert drops ‘unbelievable’ Brighton claim after confirmed news
Alan Hutton has claimed the PGMOL’s apology to Brighton after their game against Tottenham is pointless.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs and Aston Villa defender said the result on Saturday (8 April) could be the difference for the Seagulls securing European football next season.
As relayed by the BBC (9 April), the refereeing body PGMOL has apologised to Roberto de Zerbi’s side after their 2-1 defeat to Tottenham and admitted the club should have received a penalty for Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg’s challenge on Kaoru Mitoma.
Hojbjerg appeared to catch Mitoma in the Spurs box but referee Stuart Atwell waved play on and the VAR official did not intervene with the decision.
But Howard Webb has contacted Brighton and admitted that the decision was a mistake.
De Zerbi’s side are currently seventh in the Premier League after the defeat to Spurs, one point behind Aston Villa and only two clear of Liverpool but have at least one game in hand on every other team in the league.
Hutton insisted the apology won’t make up for the potential dropped points.
“It does not help you at all, not one bit,” he told Football Insider.
“Even if somebody comes out and apologises, you can’t change it. It is gone, it is done.

“We are talking about a team here who have done unbelievably well under a new manager. They are absolutely flying, they are going for European places. That could be the difference.
“They could lose out because of a point, or three, because of these mistakes. It does not help you but you have to move on and hope it corrects itself.“
