Tottenham expert: Emerson Royal backed to sign for giants after confirmed news
Alan Hutton has insisted Emerson Royal “doesn’t have what it takes” to be at Tottenham next season.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the former Spurs right-back wouldn’t be surprised if Royal ended up at Real Madrid, or another Spanish club, next season.
The 24-year-old joined the London club in 2021 from Barcelona but has failed to cement himself in the team, starting just 16 Premier League games this season.
Speaking on the Charla Podcast (20 April), the defender’s father and agent Emerson Zulu said there is a “great possibility” he will leave Tottenham this summer.
He claimed that it is time for his son to go to “a team that fights for titles” and said he “fits” at Real Madrid.
The Brazil international’s current contract at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium runs until 2026.
But Hutton claimed Royal doesn’t have what it takes to be in the English top flight next season.
“It is so physically demanding, every mistake you possibly make is magnified because you are playing against such talented players,” he told Football Insider.
“I just do not think his style suits the English Premier League.

“Spain, probably. I get where his agent is coming from because Real Madrid have all of the ball, it is very tippy tappy and lots of passing, it is not really a physical league.
“I just do not think he is suited to the physicality of the Premier League. I just do not think he has what it takes to be a top footballer at a top four club. I just do not think it has worked for him.“
