Tottenham expert ‘expects’ Cristian Romero announcement in ‘days’ as new transfer is done

Tottenham will announce the permanent signing of Cristian Romero in “the coming days”.

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per Football.London back in August 2021, the agreement between Spurs and Atalanta was a season-long loan deal with an option – not obligation – to buy for £42.5million.

Romero, 24, dazzled for Tottenham during the 2021-22 season, making 22 appearances in the Premier League.

Wenham expects the permanent deal to be announced shortly with Romero to sign until 2027.

“I expect Tottenham to confirm in the coming days that Tottenham are signing him on a permanent basis,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“They will take up that £42million option and hopefully sign him on a deal until 2027.

I just see him getting better and better and better. I noticed at the end of the season he has strong ties with Bentancur and also Sonny.

“I think that settling in period will help him go from strength to strength next season.

“It could have been hard for him to settle because of Lo Celso and Lamela, fellow Argentinians, leaving the club.

“But he’s done well and I’m looking forward to seeing his progress next season.”

Romero made 30 appearances for Spurs in all competitions during 2021-22 and scored once.

He joined Atalanta from Juventus on 6 August 2021 after a successful loan spell with Spurs announcing his loan signing later that day.
