Tottenham expert explains controversial Antonio Conte move that baffled Alasdair Gold
Antonio Conte was right to substitute Dejan Kulusevski as Tottenham lost 3-2 to Man United on Saturday.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Kulusevski, 21, was subbed off for Lucas Moura in the second half of Saturday’s (12 March) clash, despite impressing during his 78 minutes on the pitch.
Journalist Alasdair Gold reacted to the game on his YouTube channel and shared what was said in the press box when the Sweden international went off.
In the video, Gold stated, “Honestly, all the Man United journalists in the press box were all like, ‘what? Why are they taking him off?’.
He also revealed one journalist stated, “Spurs just took off their most dangerous player” though Wenham defended the move.
“Listen, Kulusevski has gone a long time without playing football,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He’s now come to Tottenham and he’s starting every game. He is regularly playing whole games.
“It’s about building up his fitness. He’s 21-year-old, he’s a young guy so that shouldn’t be a problem.
“For me, he delivered on Saturday. He won the penalty and provided Son with a great chance that he didn’t take.
“I couldn’t be more impressed with him and I understand why some fans were unhappy to see him go off.”

Kulusevski has scored twice and provided three assists in seven Premier League games for Spurs.
He joined on loan from Juventus in January and will move to Tottenham permanently when the loan expires.
