Tottenham expert fumes at Antonio Conte for picking two players who are ‘Championship level’

Antonio Conte has to take the blame after Tottenham lost 2-0 to Wolves on Sunday (13 February).

That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

Tottenham conceded two early goals and failed to recover against Wolves as they lost ground in the hunt for a top-four spot.

Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon started the game though the latter was subbed off after 28 minutes as Conte made a tactical change.

Wenham insists the duo are “Championship level” and told Conte to stop utilising wing-backs as the current options at Spurs aren’t good enough.

“In the space of a week we have made it impossible to achieve what Conte wanted to this season,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“He’s not completely absolved from blame because he is insistent on a formation that does not work with these players.

“You would think after 13 weeks he would realise we don’t have the personnel to play the way he wants to play.

“He builds his teams around wing-backs, we don’t have capable wing-backs.

“We have a half-decent wing-back in Reguilon and the rest simply aren’t good enough.

“Yesterday we lined up with Matt Doherty and Ryan Sessegnon as our wing-backs in a Premier League game.

“They’re Championship level. I was joking before the game about which one of them would be hauled off at half-time.

“It was Sessegnon and it was after 28 minutes. Doherty did absolutely nothing as well and the decision to play those players sits with the manager.”
