Tottenham expert fumes at confirmed Giovani Lo Celso update
It is “beyond frustrating” that Tottenham have only let Giovani Lo Celso leave the club on loan.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Tottenham have confirmed (14 August) Lo Celso had joined Villarreal on loan for the 2022-23 season and Fabrizio Romano reported the same day that there is no buy option included in the deal.
Also on Sunday, The Evening Standard reported Spurs will resume talks with Napoli over a loan deal for Tanguy Ndombele.
Wenham insists Tottenham are just kicking the can down the road as the club will face the same problem next summer.
“I was pleased to see Lo Celso’s loan move confirmed,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“I will say again, it is beyond frustrating that he hasn’t gone on a permanent basis so we will be back in this situation next summer.
“All we are doing is knocking time down the line. It’s another year on both of their contracts. What are we going to do, keep loaning them out until their contracts run out?
“It’s not ideal, is it? It’s very frustrating. I saw a report about some sort of loan fee and then something like a £13million fee if they qualify for the Champions League.
“It’s quite likely they will qualify for the Champions League and people are saying Levy is happy not write off £50million.

“Actually, we have probably gained £50million value from Kulusevski, Bentancur and Romero.
“So it works both ways.”
