Tottenham expert struck by Emerson after he ’causes panic’ in the ranks – ‘watch him’
Emerson Royal deserves credit for his “bizarre” performance as Tottenham beat Marseille 2-1.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Royal, 23, came on at half-time as Spurs produced an excellent second-half display against Marseille on Tuesday (1 November).
Two second-half goals gave Antonio Conte’s side a 2-1 win and confirmed progression to the knockout stages of the Champions League.
Wenham was encouraged by what he saw from the Brazilian, who has been under fire from Spurs fans this season.
“I want to shout out Emerson Royal, he is a man I have criticised nonstop and quite rightly so,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“It hasn’t been unfair. He has been disappointing in lots of games and unforgivably so in the North London derby.
“But he came on against Marseille and while his deliveries may not be up to much and while his defending might be poor, he gives energy.
“He came on and if you watch him, he just runs around. It caused a lot of panic in the Marseille ranks. It seems bizarre to say but I just think he deserves a lot of credit for his performance last night.
“He replaced Sessegnon at half time and we were definitely better for it. It was a big call and it worked.”

Royal has had an October to forget after being sent off in Tottenham’s 3-1 defeat to Arsenal in the Premier League earlier this month (1 October).
After serving a three-game ban, the Brazilian won his place back in the side immediately.
In other news, an ex-Premier League referee has demanded an extended ban for Conte after a “big” Tottenham twist.
