Tottenham expert issues Ben Davies injury verdict after Antonio Conte reveal – ‘it’s not great’

Alan Hutton has claimed Antonio Conte was looking for an upgrade on Ben Davies at Tottenham.

Speaking exclusively from Football Insider, the ex-Spurs defender said Davies’ injury won’t worry Conte as he has found a replacement in Clement Lenglet.

As quoted by the Evening Standard (22 July), Conte revealed he hopes Davies, 29, will be fit for Spurs’ first game of the season despite picking up an ankle injury during pre-season.

The defender was injured in the London club’s pre-season friendly against Sevilla.

Lenglet featured from the bench in Tottenham’s pre-season victory over Rangers on Saturday (23 July).

The France international joined the Lilywhites on loan from Barcelona.

When asked if Davies’ injury could be a problem at the start of next season, Hutton told Football Insider: “They’ve brought in Lenglet.

It’s not ideal him [Davies] getting injured, I thought he did do really well last season.

It looked like Conte was looking for an upgrade, that’s why they’ve obviously gone to Barcelona to sign one of their players.

You want everybody to be fit in an ideal world but there is someone who has just come through the door. So it’s not great to get injured in pre-season because you miss all the running and everything you’ve done so far.

So for him as a player not so great but Conte will know that he’s got a ready replacement.
