Tottenham expert issues fresh Japhet Tanganga transfer claim after ‘crazy’ development
Japhet Tanganga’s Tottenham future remains up in the air after finally making his first league appearance of the season over the festive period.
That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Tanganga, 23, was handed a rare league start, his first of this season, when Tottenham drew 2-2 with Brentford on Boxing Day.
However, with the score at 1-0 to Brentford at half time, the defender was substituted by Antonio Conte.
He was then an unused substitute for New Year’s Day’s 2-0 loss to Aston Villa.
Wenham can no longer predict if the player will be sold in January after his return to the side.
“At least he started,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He made, what, one appearance this season before this. It was in the Champions League if I remember correctly.
“That’s his whole season, it’s crazy. He came in, started, he obviously impressed enough during the World cup break that Conte thought he was worth a go.
“Then he was back out of the lineup against Villa so that chopping and changing can’t be good for him either.
“It will be concerning for the player, he won’t know where his future lies. Again, will he be at the club in a few weeks?
“It’s hard to predict anything at the moment but if that was him being put in the shop window then I’m not sure we will be receiving any bids.”

Before the Brentford game, Tanganga’s only appearance this term came against Marseille on 7 September as he made a 17-minute cameo off the bench.
Tanganga was ruled out for the remainder of the 2021-22 season in mid-March after undergoing surgery on his right knee.
