Tottenham expert issues Harry Kane sale claim after talks update
Alan Hutton has insisted Tottenham should “tie down” Harry Kane to a new long-term contract with the club.
Speaking exclusively to Football Insider, the ex-Spurs right-back said the London club would struggle to find a replacement.
Journalist Fabrizio Romano reported (10 July) that there have been no discussions with any clubs over the 28-year-old.
Antonio Conte is said to have no intention of selling the England international.
Kane currently has two years left on his contract at the Tottenham Hotspur stadium.
When asked if he thought Conte’s side would be willing to let Harry Kane go for the right price, Hutton told Football Insider correspondent Charlotte Cohen: “You look at last season when Man City came in with a big offer and it was rejected and turned down, he wasn’t for sale.
“He’s now a year older, is somebody going to pay that amount of money?
“The flip side to that is, if you do sell him you’re going to have to spend some amount of money to bring in somebody to replace his goals and what he brings to the team.
“I think the smart decision is, tie him down to a long-term contract. He’s obviously Tottenham through and through, he’s enjoying his football. He sees an elite manager coming in and bringing some top-quality players.

“So they’re going to push for top four. Eventually, it’s going to be to try and challenge with the big boys but they’re in a good position at this moment in time and I’m pretty sure Harry Kane will be happy with the direction that the football club is going in.
“So I’m pretty sure he’d be happy to sign a new long-term deal and he is a legend but he can just cement that even further by signing a new deal.“
