Tottenham expert issues ‘huge’ January transfer window prediction after update

Tottenham will not alter their January transfer plans based on how the team performs this month.

That is according to Spurs expert John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.

As per the Telegraph (8 January), Tottenham are targeting a new right-back this month amid questions over Emerson Royal and Matt Doherty.

Wenham would not be surprised if Spurs only sign a right-back despite questions around other areas of the squad.

“Do I think results will affect January plans? No,” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.

“I don’t think we operate like that, as a club. If we have January plans they will have been in place for a while now and I think the only thing that would change it would be a major injury.

“If we had another attacking injury then I think we would be forced to go and get someone. You could say the same about any club though.

“I have seen people suggesting that the game against Villa could mean we change the plans and go and spend more money than we wanted to.

“I don’t think that’s how we work. I’m sure we want a right back and maybe a number 10, I think that is where we are at.

“January is a hard month to do business in, a huge amount of work goes into it.

The work shouldn’t start on the first of January, it should start as soon as the summer window closes.
