Tottenham expert issues ‘huge’ Richarlison claim after analysing new controversy
Richarlison was right to be booked after taking his shirt off while celebrating a disallowed goal during Tottenham v Fulham.
That is according to Spurs insider John Wenham, who regularly breaks news about the club on his Lilywhite Rose social media channels.
Richarlison, 25, thought he had scored in the dying moments of Spurs’ 2-1 win over Fulham on Saturday (3 September), and celebrated by taking his shirt off and running up to the nearest set of home fans.
However, the goal was ruled out for an offside in the buildup and even though the goal didn’t stand, the Brazilian was booked for his celebrations.
Wenham has no issues with this even if the booking was “disappointing”.
“Yeah, that’s disappointing but what can you do?” Wenham told Football Insider correspondent Ben Wild.
“He took his shirt off and that is a yellow card, unfortunately, even if the goal doesn’t stand. Those are the rules, it’s not his fault.
“Whenever Richarlison was going to score his first goal, there was always going to be a big celebration.
“He is a hugely emotional character and he is already a bit of a cult hero with the fans.
“It hasn’t taken long, people are very much on his side. He gives us a real option.“

Richarlison was handed his first start for Tottenham against Fulham after making three appearances off the bench.
Spurs are next in action against Marseille on Wednesday (7 September).
